From the average person to those in the beauty know and media stars, switching to clean beauty products and conscious consumerism is a global phenomenon which knows no bounds. And thanks to the power of celebrities and social media this is a movement that is here to stay.
Just as British makeup artist Lou Dartford, a regular in fashion magazines such as Wonderland, Nylon or Grazia, told Harper’s Bazaar, “I now know it is possible to work with effective beauty products that are also both ethical and environment-friendly.”
“There are so many amazing eco-brands out there. Why wouldn’t you want to support them? I’ve seen customers’ skin change for the better when switching to products packed with good, pure, plant-based ingredients rather than mineral oils, for example.” Dartford is a great fan of Twelve Beauty products and trusts their brand philosophy. For her, the effectiveness and safety of their formulas makes the brand a must-have for both her kit and personal use.
Another example is Amanda Grossman, a prominent red carpet, runway and celebrity make-up artist for the likes of Emma Watson, Cat Deeley and Arizona Muse, to name but a few. Grossman decided to change all her kit to clean beauty products. “I was asked to put together a totally ethical and cruelty-free kit for my client, Emma Watson, when we embarked on a promotional tour,” the make-up artist told The Industry Fashion magazine. “I had to educate myself in the world of ethical beauty, something I had little knowledge of at the time. But I found it so inspiring,” she admits.
Clean beauty product must-haves
Grossman has a weakness for The London Mask, one of Twelve Beauty’s most sought-after products. This fresh, handmade face mask with its double cleansing action, calms and restores radiance. Perfect for stressed skin looking for a vitality boost, this unique mask has a whole legion of loyal fans.
In particular, actress Naomie Harris: “I am passionate about The London Mask. Apart from being named after my hometown, it gives my skin such a beautiful natural glow. After leaving it on for just 15 minutes, my skin no longer looks tired, which is such a plus after a long day. Its effects never cease to amaze me.” In fact, Harris has a fondness for the entire skincare range. “I love everything about Twelve Beauty. I’ve been using many of their products for over five years now.”
Their award-winning Hyaluroil Lip Treatment, with encapsulated Hyaluronic Acid, vegetable oils and Konjac powder, is another of her favourites: “I’m obsessed with Hyaluroil Lip Treatment. It’s amazing. I love how soft it leaves my lips,” she confesses.
Talented make-up artist, Kenneth Soh, can’t live without Intelligent Frontier Facial Oil, the lipid booster that restores health and beauty to skin in record time thanks to its powerful blend of unsaponifiable vegetable oils. A truly universal “non-greasy” facial oil which you can combine with other products, such as Ideal Moisture Level Serum, to provide skin with essential nourishment.
And it is Ideal Moisture Level Serum that is a must-have of actress Lesley Manville, who plays Princess Margaret in the final two seasons of The Crown. Known for its incredible texture, ultra-fast absorption, this oil-free face serum packs a serious hydration punch for skin.
Naomie Harris also pledges her allegiance to this versatile serum, “I adore using Ideal Moisture Level Serum and Intelligent Frontier Facial Oil together. It is a very easy way to provide my skin with the two elements it needs the most (hydration and lipids). Since using this combination, my skin is more even-toned and much more balanced. It makes my make-up look better and last longer, even during a long day of filming.”
Natural sun protection is also a firm favourite
Former model and lifestyle influencer Jasmine Hemsley prefers using a 100% natural SPF. One of her favourites is Artemisia Power Protection Moisturizer SPF50+. As she says on her blog, “Twelve Beauty has been a firm favourite in natural and sustainable skincare for years, but the advent of the Artemisia Power Protection Moisturiser SPF50+ was met with much excitement.”
“It’s not always understood that a good sunscreen needs to be worn with a high level of antioxidant support for your skin, and because formulator Dr Pedro Catalá understands this, he has jam-packed this new SPF with amazing antioxidant-rich plant extracts and aptly named it an Anti-Pollution Day Emulsion. This is the perfect sun protection for those with really sun-sensitive and pale complexions as it contains no fragrance and offers high levels of protection.”
