In some ways natural product formulation is akin to hiking to a mountain summit. You have to investigate the best route, choose the necessary equipment and detect any difficulties you may face. Furthermore, it is your initial enthusiasm to reach the highest peak, or in our case to obtain the final formula, that continues to push you forward. And it is here, on the mountainside, where many botanical wonders choose to grow.
For me, the journey I want to share with you in this post began with the identification of a certain ingredient – Epilobium, also known as Alpine willowherb. This powerhouse natural ingredient is organically grown on the lower slopes of the Swiss Alps. Fragile in appearance but full of skin beneficial properties, it is able to improve the appearance of skin from the very first application.
Fights against bad bacteria
One of the things that really stood out for me was its ability to reduce the levels of Cutibacterium acnes (linked to excess sebum and acne) and Corynebacterium kroppenstedtii (responsible for redness) on the skin.
The more flavonoids the better
Amongst Epilobium’s finest qualities is its high flavonoid content. Flavonoids are some of the most powerful antioxidants present in the plant kingdom.
An approved prebiotic
What’s more, Epilobium has also been proven to stimulate beneficial skin bacteria such as Staphylococcus epidermidis and Micrococcus yunnanensis.
Oenotein-B, a mighty molecule
Despite being relatively unknown, several studies have shown Oenotein-B able to control the enzyme responsible for excessive sebum production.
Where to find Epilobium extract in your Twelve Beauty favs?
